MFA DANCE RECORDS
I have come to understand these works as visual records of my research and process during my MFA in Dance (2016-2019, University of Maryland). They are record of breaking forms in order establish new ones in embodiment, practice and mind. They were created at the intersections of movement, understandings of reality, color as form, thinking and symbolism, unknowingness, and a deep process of understanding and beginning to come to terms with my gender identity in particular. At the moment, these pieces instigate the thought that all art is self-portraiture in some sense. Even if one works to remove phenomenology from the work, the removal remains; A wish to see something/non-thing in the world. |

Shifting Sketches
Visual records and expressions of Shifting Technologia, a full evenings-length dance work created and choreographed at Joe's Movement Emporium in Mt. Rainier, MD. The sketches were gifts of gratitude to the patrons and friends who financially supported the dance piece, while allowing the work to continue beyond the performance. I share them here as a visual demonstration and thinking of my work in movement. To me, they are movement as well as invoke movement. They invoke a truth of reality, in that all memory and future is abstraction. And for me, they demonstrate how memories can be stored as somatic and visual abstractions of experience to continue their journey to forming, creating reality, and discovering dimension. ...a bit more on Shifting Technologia here |
